- Friday, 13H00, We collect you where you stay in Johannesburg or Pretoria. We travel north along the NI, crisscrossing the springbok vlakte passing Precambrian (the period before the explosion of life on earth) geological formations such as the Magalies, Kranskop, Rooiberg and Waterberg Friday 18H00 We arrive at Mokopane (formerly Potgietersrus). We spend the night in the historical Makapans Valley. Supper will be served between 07H00 and 08H00. Saturday 07H00 We go on a guided tour of Makapansgat. Here weâ€™ll see 3.3 million-year-old bones of Australopithecus Africanus or Paranthropus robustus in the Limeworks cave as well as the Cave of Hearths. Youâ€™ ll relive homid evolution as you witness the various stages of occupation of these cave by Homo Habilis(early stone age man who lived about 2.5 to 2 million years ago and who was the first hominid to use tools); Homo Erectus (who used stone axes diggers and arrowheads); then, in the iron age in historical times, Homo sapien, sapien (modern man) who occupied the caves from around 500 A.D. A remarkable occurrence in these parts are 2500 million-year-old fossil remnants of the simplest single celled organisms, and the earliest producers of oxygen on earth. Saturday, 13H00, We depart for Mapungupwe. Saturday, 18H00, We experience the sunset at the confluence of the Shazi and Limpopo rivers. Standing on South African soil you are able to see far into Zimbabwe to th north and Botswana to the West. Saturday evening we have a real bushveld braai Sunday, 10H00, We go on a guided tour of Mapungupwe Hill Sunday, 14H00, We return to Gauteng
